I’ve been digging and looking for an answer to this. Is there some way to hide the component icons like gears, camera, ect… I find them quite distracting.

To the top right of the scene editor, you have the scene gizmo button. There you can disable gizmo views like camera, scripts etc. but also thinks like physics colliders.
