Before we permanently make a switch from Unity to Paradox, the main thing to know beforehand is if Paradox Engine is safe enough to make a full game with(specifically RPG)? I have seen issues such as memory leak and other issues so I am a bit worried. Paradox, like I said before few months ago is the suitable free game engine for any game developers because of the freedom and how the component system works. Even better than Unity in a lot of different ways.
Big difference from Unity is that you can fork engine sources and eliminate all possible leaks or something. That is the major advancement for me - you control engine. You compose its work in the way you like and not in the only ways that Unity developers allows you.
Exactly! Do you think Paradox is stable enough to create a game yet or test a prototype of a game?
It’s still in beta, so the answer is probably no. But it depends really, what is your market (PC/consoles/mobile)? When are you planning on shipping? This year, next year, two years etc? There’s still the potential for a lot of breaking changes in the updates, which could mean a lot of reworking. But if you’ve got the time/budget to account for that going forward then I think the investment would definitely pay off.
I think it’s stable enough for prototyping, but again it depends on specific circumstances. If I was in charge of a AAA game studio I would probably consider it too much of a risk for something that I would want a guaranteed return on in a few years.
Just desktop for now. Later on, probably console. It won’t be in the AAA standard but pretty close to it.
Give it a spin :). From my limited experience with Unity I much prefer paradox.
I agree. Unity doesn’t give you that much freedom in the programming side of the things. I also wonder since you seem comfortable with Paradox, how fluid can you make the animation? Is there like blending?
I’ve not actually done much development with it, so I can’t be too much help. At the moment I’m just making a prototype for a pixel art top down RPG, and there’s no animation there yet.
I think I can remember that some devs were talking about blending animation. Try to search.
Which environment is Paradox really focused in? 2D or 3D?
Will try to search for that. Thanks!
From what I’ve seen it’s more focused on 3D, but it’s got nice support for 2D stuff too.
